The Lares Valley trek + Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, gives the trekker the best of all worlds in 4 days. You pass through the most isolated indigenous communities keeping the Inca culture alive, and get the privilege to interact with them. Our own unique route is incredibly picturesque, with majestic ice glaciers, shockingly blue glacial lakes, waterfalls, llamas, and alpacas. On the Inca Trail hike on the original Inca trail just like in ancient times, explore the ancient Inca religious cities along the way and enter through the Sun Gate directly to Machu Picchu Citadel. You get to visit Machu Picchu 2 times. How could you want more!

Day 1: Cusco – Pisac– Huaran – Cancha Cancha.

The excitement of your Lares trek to Machu Picchu will help you arise early for your pickup at 5:00am whether in Cusco or Sacred Valley.. Within the hour we will arrive at the ancient remanents of this truly awesome Pisac Inca Citadel. If you are able to take your eyes off the ruins and look up towards the skies you will be memorized at the flight of the Cararcara falcons hovering and circling in the endless sky. Our guide will share with you the history of the Pisac Inca Citadel in all it’s brilliance.

Breakfast is served high above looking down at the plunging gorges and awesome views of the Inca city and valleys. Driving onward for 40 more minutes to Huaran, we meet our horsemen and horses. Time to saddle up, boots on, and begin our first 3 hours, gradually ascending up to Canchacancha. There we replenish our energy for our trek ahead with a delicious lunch prepared by our trekking chef. Canchacancha being the the most isolated and self sustainable community traditional to the core, has no bus route or electricity. Reestablish your connection with nature and the realness of life with the locals as they share share their homes. It would be greatly appreciated if you could share some toys, old useful clothes, notebooks, fruit or any other items with the local. Two hours later we have completed our first trekking day and arrive at our campsite. Boots off, time to enjoy high tea with amazing views of the frozen Andean peaks. After dinner our guide will show you the Inca Constellations,which they depended on for their agricultural guidance and still do to this present day.

Day 2: Cancha Cancha – Quishuarani – Ollantaytambo.

Feeling all reved up on our second day and having had a delicious breakfast, we begin our 4 hour hike northeast, an intense trek, passing over three high passes to the highest point of our trek called Pachacuted pass. (4700 mt /15420 ft). This is the time to pat yourself on the back and embrace the feeling of total exhilaration and self achievement having reached the summit. Compensating for the tough trek are the views of the rigid glaciers, shockingly blue glacial lakes, llamas, rugged valleys and undulating farmlands. After a time to enjoy the 360º views, we descend for an hour, taking lunch by the mirrored glacial lake, with picturesque views of the Lares Valley with plenty of llamas and alpacas. After a siesta time, we descend for 2 hours til we reach our campsite located by the Kiswarani community. (3700 mt/12139ft). Taking the backroads to Machu Picchu Llama, herders are readily seen and the local indigenous people will open their hearts and interact with you in the Quechua language (Inca’s language). Your guide will act as your mediator to translate and teach you some Quechua language, and then you get to enjoy the stunning waterfall… Finally we arrive to Kiswany, take our transportation for 2 hours to Ollantaytambo where you will stay the night.

DAY 3: Ollantaytambo – 104 kms – WIÑAYHUAYNA – SUN GATE – MACHU PICCHU.

With a compacted 2 days of excitement ahead, we will pick you up from your hotel at 5:30am and drive you to the Expedtion train station. After an hour and ten minute scenic train ride to 104 kms point (elevation 2,100m/6,927ft) we arrive at the place where we begin our trek. At this point we begin a moderate climb for three hours to the chiseled remnants and remote archaeological site of Wiñayhuana, (2,650m/8747 ft). Enjoy the spectacular plunging views of the Urubamba Canyon, and the ethnic wonders of the ancient Inca sites, as you embrace them with an open mind and heart your connection with the ancient Inca Trail will begin. After your being at one with this beautiful sight, we will continue onward towards the Sun Gate.(2,730mts/9,007ft) Following the ancient remote footpath we get our first spectacular view of Machu Picchu Citadel in all its brilliance and majesty. As we move closer to the citadel of Machu Picchu you will feel her mystical presence. Then we will take our bus to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in our hotel.

DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO.

Today you will get to enjoy exploring Machu Picchu and experience her magical presence by taking the first bus at 5:30AM to the Machu Picchu archeological site. If you hurry you will get to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu. Take your time, making sure you tour every nook and cranny of this New 7 Wonder of the World and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. It is an unforgettable experience. Your guide will expertly direct you through the energetic ruins and its diverse main streets. Then on your own, wander around the town squares of the world’s spiritual center of esoteric wisdom as well as climb the intricately carved stairways made of stone. Or stay still and drink in the pure majesty of her presence, and enjoy the pure delight of the moment. Here are a few of alternative activities that you might wish to indulge in on your own:

  • Climb up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain and appreciate the beauty and magnificence of Machu
    Picchu (not included in your tour price and must be booked in advance.)
  • You will be given some time to walk to the Sun Gate or Inti Punku (free of charge)
  • Other optional activities in Aguas Calientes include a visit to the new local museum or to the hot springs (entrance fees required)

You will descend to Aguas Calientes when you are ready to eat lunch and later on board the Expedition train at
4:22pm for the return trip to Cuscostopping at the Ollantaytambo Train Station and you will be driven back to
your hotel in Cusco from Ollantaytambo in our private van arriving at around 8pm.
